The following is a short research case study that I have done. This study was not done for any particular course, but for my own edification. Please try to enjoy.

Fruit baskets have become more and more popular over the past year and a half. Prior to that, the concept was practically non-existent except for in the picture books of Ancient Egypt. But companies like Harry & David and The Fruit Company have brought the concept back to our modern world. Now, one of the most common wedding and anniversary gifts are fruit baskets.

After receiving several of them myself, a thought sparked in my head. What are the most common fruits used in a fruit basket? I was curious and decided to do some research online. Here are the results of the most common fruits found in fruit baskets:

Apples were the most common, being found in 85% of all basket arrangements. The apple is perhaps the most universal fruit in the world. So, since America is a melting pot of cultures, people tend to stay on the safe side and give a fruit that they know the other culturally disparate person would like.

Following the lead of the apple comes the orange. An orange is also a universally loved fruit. The citrus flavor can never leave the mouth without craving addiction. Americans are addicted to oranges. Do you need more proof than the entire walls of different flavors of orange juices at the supermarket?

The rest of the fruits were distributed quite evenly in fruit baskets at 30 and 25 percent. These would be pears, grapes, pomegranates, cherries, watermelons, and pineapples. The reason for this is that people tend to be cautious about giving others "exotic" fruits. Do you like exotic dancers? Some men do, but not everyone.

In conclusion, a fruit basket is an excellent gift for your friends and family because it is universal and you'll always be safe. Peace out.
