and Records Management |
-
Archives and Records Management. Archives phone: 404-894-4586.
Hours: 9am - 5pm and by apt only from 8am - 9am. Archives contains
materials related to the history of Georgia Tech and its alumni and faculty,
including Institute publications and Georgia Tech masters' theses and doctoral
dissertations. Archives' entrance
is outside the main building.
-
Georgia Tech project reports (technical research reports from GTRI
and academic departments). For recent unclassified Georgia Tech project
reports not listed in the Classic Catalog,
contact Records
Management. Recent Georgia Tech project reports are available
electronically or in hard copy in records management remote storage (one
copy). Older Georgia Tech project reports are in the Main Library
and Archives (two copies). Selected GT project reports are available
electronically in the Classic Catalog
"Electronic Version" field.
| Journals,
Periodicals, Magazines |
-
Unbound Periodicals. The latest current print journal issues
are on the 2nd
floor east, arranged alphabetically by journal title. Loose
issues are listed in Classic Catalog
journal records in the "Recent Issues" field.
-
Bound Periodicals. Bound (print) periodical volumes are indicated
in the Library Catalog record "Library Has:" field. More than
one "Library Has:" field may be present -- Main Library, Recent
Issues, remote Storage. Periodicals (journals) are shelved by "Call
Number" in the "Main Library" 1980+, and in "Storage" through
1979 (see storage information, below).
-
Journals (periodicals) published before 1980 are housed
in remote "Storage." Please fill out separate ILLiad
request forms for each pre-1980 journal paper. For print journal
volumes published through 1979, the Catalog record will say "Location:
Unavailable
(request articles through your ILLIAD
account)." Each journal paper request will either be filled in remote
storage or will be requested through interlibrary loan.
-
In some "Notes" fields, print periodical volumes listed with brackets {}
or () may have missing issues.
-
Title Changes. A separate Classic
Catalog record exists for each print periodical title change. Note
the different titles in the "Continues" and "Continued by"
and "Split into" fields. Each "title change" record will have its
own unique holdings information (years/dates).
-
Electronic journals (subscription, aggregator, open access) are
linked in the Classic Catalog "Electronic
Version: Get fulltext copy. Find It GT" field; the e-journal's publication
date coverage is after "Available from".
-
The
E-Journal list and
the Classic Catalog electronic journal
records contain aggregator journals (EBSCOhost, ProQuest, GaleGroup,
Factiva, Lexis Nexis, etc.) with possible selective coverage and
embargo
date restrictions. Check the years (holdings) of the Library's
print
subscription in the "Library has" fields (Main Library, remote Storage,
Recent Issues).
-
Separate print and electronic records exist for the same
journal. Print (hard copy) Catalog
records may be listed after the electronic journal records. A small number
of Catalog records may temporarily have both print and electronic journal
holdings within the same record
-
Conference proceedings and technical reports can be difficult to locate.

Loan. Borrow From Other Libraries. Photocopies and Book Loans |
-
Borrowing
and Requesting from other Libraries: "OPTION 2 - ILLiad
Interlibrary Loan System"
-
Information Delivery will try to provide loans or photocopies of items
not owned by the Georgia Tech Library.
-
Electronic interlibrary loan
ILLiad forms are at http://illiad.library.gatech.edu/.
-
Service is available to currently enrolled students and currently employed
faculty and staff.
-
Most loans and photocopies are free. However, you would be responsible
for any charges in excess of $25.00 per item.
-
You can indicate in the ILLiad "Notes" field that you wish to be notified
if the item is not free to you.
-
Delivery can range from a few days to several weeks, so allow enough time
when requesting material. If you need something in a hurry, indicate a
specific deadline. You would still be responsible for charges in excess
of the $25 per item limit, even if the material is received after your
deadline.
Use the service to obtain:
-
Photocopies and loans of books, theses, articles, conference papers, etc.
from other libraries or commercial vendors.
-
Audio-visual materials. We will do our best to borrow these for you,
but many libraries will not lend them or will lend them with restrictions.
-
Most book loans and photocopies from University System of Georgia libraries
are free. Most interlibrary loans from ARCHE and ASERL regional consortial
libraries are free. Some libraries may charge more than $25/item, such
as MIT, the British Library or CISTI.
-
For charges in excess of $25 per item, ask your ECE advisor if you are
eligible to use an ECE PeopleSoft Project Number and its corresponding
ECE Document ID Number.
-
U.S. Ph.D. Dissertations (UMI or ILL)
-
Borrow dissertations through the Library's Information Delivery interlibrary
loan department. Borrowed dissertations will arrive either in paper or
in microform format (microfiche or microfilm). Borrowing
and Requesting from other Libraries
-
Generally the Georgia Tech Library tries to obtain a loan of dissertations;
however you have the option of purchasing a copy from Dissertation Express,
through GT ILLiad. Use the ILLiad Request a Photocopy option and
put "Order from Dissertation Express" in the Notes field. Regular
ILL borrowed dissertations will arrive either in paper or in microform
format. You can request your own fast UMI Dissertation Express dissertation
copy through interlibrary loan (Library Information Delivery) using your
department's ECE PeopleSoft Project number and ECE Document ID number;
please note UMI Express
charges.
-
Can order a copy yourself directly through UMI
with a credit card.
-
A very small number of libraries do not allow the use of UMI Dissertation
Express, such as MIT (can
cost significantly more than UMI's Express
charges).
-
Finding Theses and Dissertations
-
Notes. Fill out all empty field boxes and also copy and paste
the entire Library bibliographic database record into the ILLiad "Notes"
field box.
-
Item Pick-Up. Pick up loaned items and photocopies at the
Library Services Desk (Circulation), 1st
floor west.
-
Questions. For questions about your interlibrary loan, ask
the Information Delivery Department, located on the 2nd
floor east (office door). Phone 404-894-4511. Hours are Monday-Friday
8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Email: delivery@library.gatech.edu
-
Time. Interlibrary loan turn around time is usually 2-3 weeks.
