Flights
All through college, my daughter, Carol, kept expressing her desire to receive a European vacation as her college graduation gift. She wishes to make this trip on her own and have the freedom to travel throughout Europe with her cousins. She says she has discussed this with them and they also think it's a great plan. Meanwhile, I have not promised this trip and have hesitated to discuss it with Carol. I am not sure that I want her traveling across a continent without any supervision or any family to fall back on.
I contacted my sister-in-law, Marie, in Italy to see how she feels about this vacation my daughter is planning. After all, her children are also involved. She is a little hesitant but does feel that the children are old enough to go out on their own so she is agreeable to her two girls joining my daughter on this journey. Marie feels that they will not stray too far from home and will, hopefully, make short trips to other cities in Italy. Since her girls have already graduated from college, my daughter, Carol, will be the youngest on the trip. It has been her dream for many years so I decided to investigate the costs involved so I could make a final decision. After all, we do not have unlimited funds and Carol would have to stay within a budget for this trip.
I began investigating cheap international airfares. I discovered that they are almost nonexistent. Cheap international flights are not available in advance and we may have to wait and make our plans at the last minute when a good offer comes our way. I tried to find cheap flights online and was very disappointed. Discount airfare were also not available to us as we selected a large variety of dates but were still unable to obtain the affordable rates we were hoping to find. I was checking the rates almost daily and had signed up for regular e-mails regarding special offers. One day I received an e-mail that was the answer to our prayers. I could finally afford to send my daughter on the trip of her dreams. A cheap international flights was available for dates that would coincide with my daughter's free time prior to beginning her new job. I was so happy to have obtained a cheap international airfares that I could actually afford that I called my sister-in-law Marie and confirmed the plans. I was going to surprise Carol with this gift on her graduation day. I knew that it would be her graduation dream come true and was so happy that we could give this to her. She has worked very hard over the years and we are very proud of her accomplishments.
Flights
The air outside of my dorm is practically buzzing with excitement. With the return of the sun and the warmth that we were all missing just a month ago everyone is willing and ready to go out just take a walk. Classes are starting to become more and more empty as time goes on. Ironically classes are giving more work as well to keep up with the people who have just given up in favor of sun bathing. I myself have kept up with classes but that's not to say I have not been enjoying the weather and looking ahead two weeks to the beginning of the summer. I have decided to skip this summer and not take classes. That means I will have to do twice as much next summer but I am totally fine with that right now. I look at it like I will be taking this summer off so I can handle next summer's work load. My time outside of class has become split between doing homework and looking up discount flights. I have been surprised by how much discount airfares there is out there. I thought I would only have a limited number of places to choose from because of my low budget. I am actually fining out that I am having to weed out cheap airfares by the kinds of things I would do in the destination. The most exciting part for me so far has been the vast number of cheap international flights that are available all summer long. I am not be too discriminating about any of the cheap airfares, but I always wanted to go out of the country and I think now I finally have the money to do it. I only have another two weeks worth of work to do and then I am free for the whole summer. Images of me in Rome, Brazil, or Japan living a simple summer backpacking everywhere just cloud my vision. I have to get over all of that stuff and finish my work and buy one of these cheap international airfares by the end of next week and then I will be out of here faster than the weather has turned.
Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a rate but deadly disease. It is actually a form of cancer in the sac surrounding the lungs. This disease most commonly effects Caucasian males over the age of 50. The disease is rarely diagnosed in its early stages, and therefore, usually the prognosis and life expectancy following a diagnosis of this kind are not good.
The only known cause of this disease is prolonged exposure to asbestos. The disease does not seem to manifest right away, and therefore the effects of the asbestos exposure might not be seen for 20 years or so. In the meantime, you may not realize that you were exposed to asbestos, and even if you do realize that you were exposed, you think you are fine because you feel fine and seem fine. Unfortunately, you could still have this rare deadly form of cancer eating away at your lungs.
Some of the symptoms of this disease are difficulty breathing, night sweats, and chest pain. Symptoms are not always present at the time of diagnosis of this illness. Many people discover that they have Mesothelioma at the time of a routine exam, rather than because they are looking for the deadly disease.
After diagnosis, the prognosis is not good. Most people die within 5 years of their initial diagnosis, and many die within less than a year. It is really frightening to think that you or someone you love could be walking around and seeming to be just fine and yet they could have this deadly illness eating away at their lungs.
So here's what you need to do. Hop online and try to determine the higher risk factors for asbestos exposure. If you have worked in the shipbuilding industry, factory work, manufactured mobile homes, worked construction, or spent a lot of time in old buildings or schools, then you are probably at a much higher risk. If you or a loved one have ever worked in a high risk job with a chance of asbestos exposure, you need to go to your doctor and get a complete physical, and please let your doctor know that you are concerned about your risk of having Mesothelioma, and he can do additional tests to see if you do.
Early diagnosis and treatment are really the only ways to overcome this disease. Please don't wait until you experience symptoms, studies show that by that point it is probably too late.
network fax
I was pretty surprised last Saturday when my mom suddenly asked me to help her move some office equipment from her home office. Usually, Saturdays start off with me rushing out the door to try to enjoy the nice weather outside before being stopped by my mom to help her with a quick household chore, like vacuuming up the mess created by my little sister in the living room and stairs. But this time, I found myself unplugging her phone and network fax machine and placing them in boxes. She told me later that she was switching all her communication lines to VoIP (voice over internet protocol), which I had only heard about from friends before. Basically, she would use our internet connection to send other data too, like from her phone and from her fax machine. She had me install several new SIP phones, which utilized VoIP to make calls. Also, she configured her network fax, which she called her Microsoft fax, to use VoIP. I didn't know she was so technologically savvy, but I learned a lot that day before I rushed out the door. She essentially swapped all her normal phones and fax machine with SIP phones and a Microsoft fax, which used a more efficient (and may I say cooler) way to transfer data over internet lines. She often makes calls to some distributors in Alberta, Canada, so making calls through VoIP made a lot of sense for her. Also, since we already had an internet connection, we didn't need to have a technician come over and install any new hardware or drill through walls or anything like that. Plus, if we needed a technician, I probably would have been the one that had to wait anyways, so I'm glad that our VoIP didn't require more installation. After setting up her new phone, I tried it out and couldn't tell any difference from a normal phone line. I would have never guessed that it was using the same internet line that I use for AIM and Facebook! After all the chores were finished, I still rushed out the door to meet some friends. I mean, VoIP is cool, but I still have to enjoy the weather!
payday loan
The other day, my car broke down and I was really worried. I don't have much money, I am trying to go to school and work, but as for extras there really are none. Over the summer I will have more time to work, but right now my school work is taking most of my time when I am not at work or sleeping.
Anyway, back to my car, I was driving down the road and every time I would accelerate the whole engine felt like it was shaking. Well, I brought into the local repair shop and after assessing my vehicle they determined that the problem was the cam shaft sensor needed to be replaced. They told me that this service would cost about $250.00 with parts and labor. Now what! I needed my car back, but I didn't have any money really left in the bank and I didn't want to ask someone I know to borrow that kind of money, so I thought about looking into taking a payday loan. I had heard of this type of cash advance, but had never actually had to use one.
Well I called the local payday advance place to ask what I needed to do. They told me that as long as I had a pay stub and a bank statement, they could help me and of course id. I went down there the next day and they really were a big help. Doing all the paperwork was actually the hardest part of the whole process, and before long I had $250.00 in my hand and was off to the repair shop to get my car back.
I never had even thought of using one of these places before. It is definitely not the perfect answer as the interest on these loans is very high, but it was for me the only option when my car needed repairs and I was cash poor. If you ever find yourself in this type of predicament, don't hesitate to contact your local payday loan place and see what they can do for you. It is a quick and painless process and you can pay back a loan and take it back out if you need to. I will pay mine back $50.00 at a time, until I get it paid off. I know it will take a few months, but once I hit summertime I will be able to work more and get it paid off completely.
Umbria villas
If you are looking for the ultimate vacation spot look no further than Italy. The Italian villas are some of the best accommodations in the world. There is something for everyone in this magical land.
If water is your thing, be sure to visit Umbria. Slightly east of the rolling hills of Tuscany, lays this beautiful city with waterfalls, the largest lake in Italy, and the incredible Tiber River. With river valleys and think wooded areas, this national parkland type area is a must see for the outdoorsy types. Be sure to stay at the Umbria villas while in this neck of the woods. Also, be sure to check out all the natural beauty that Tuscany has to offer while in this area. Truly an extension of a visit to Tuscany as well is a visit to Le Marche. The Le Marche villas provide some of the most incredible views I have ever seen. If you are in the Tuscany area, be sure to check out these villas as well. You will be glad you did.
Venice is an incredible city, very different from any experience you will have in the US. Venice the city built on water is quite incredible with the bridges on gondolas that make this city such a true adventure. The most incredible thing is that they use canals as roadways through this area of mystique. Definitely a must see in Italy.
Rome of course is one of the best known tourist attractions and although if you have the time to visit, it has some amazing architecture, but is much more geared toward a tourist than some of the other areas I have mentioned.
Florence holds its own attraction for the art lover and wine connoisseur. This small town atmosphere will give you a taste of history with Michelangelo's David and the incredible art galleries housed here. There are also an abundance of wine tastings available as well. If this sounds like your forte, then Florence is a must see while in Italy.
Lastly, my favorite spot in all of Italy is eighteen kilometers of sheer rocky coastline in northern Italy, terraced hills and vineyards sloping steeply down to the sea. Five little villages are built into the rocks between the beach and the hills. You can hike, swim, drink red wine, and watch blazing Mediterranean sunsets away from the tourist throngs in the Italian cities and the French Riviera. This incredible place is called Cinque Terre and the Cinque Terre Apartments provide some of the best views that I have ever seen.
high schools
It's always funny to me when someone asks me where I am from. Every time someone asks me I have to either decide to rqattle off the laundry list if towns, states, and countries where I've lived, or I just pcik one and stick with it. So some poepl in this would see me as hailing from the enitre world, and others see me as the kid from albequerqe or that guy from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Now that I am in college I don't get that question nearly as much as 'what high schools did you go to. That again is quite a hard question for me to answer because in all honesty I went to so many different schools that my senior year was the only year I didn't go to more than one school. To some poepl this may sound a bit crazy and like I came from a broken home or some strange traveling carnival background. Though both guesses are wrong, the latter is a little closer to the reality that was my childhood. My parents were both traveling musicians and believed in home schooling. So we spent most of my childhood living on the road. When we would stop in to a town and stay for any longer than a day or tw I would ask to go to school. There we would stay, still living in our bus at the campgrounds or on the common grounds, until they found a gig or a festival to play at somewhere else and it was back to homeschooling for my sisters and I. Like I said, this isn't the craziest background to come from, but it was still a circus at all times. I never remembered living in a house of our own until I was a senior in high school. The only reason we settled down was because I told my parents I wanted to go to college and my choice schools woulnd't consider me if I was totally homeschooled. So they took our quite sizeable life savings and got a house right outside of Philly where my dad is originally from. Now it's four years after we moved and with my youngest sister leaving for college, the bus is starting to get restless in the yard.
PABX phone system
The law firm I worked at last year was a small one. It had about 10 attorneys, a handful of staff, and one very busy secretary. Even though we were all on one floor and relatively close to each other, the preferred method of communication was our phone system. It was strange to see two attorneys speak to each other over the phone even though their offices were literally side-by-side, but I guess it was a lot more convenient that way. Phones were always flashing red next to their wide array of buttons. I didn't know what they all meant, but the phone system could do some fancy things like hold several calls, conduct conference calls, and even forward voicemails to other phones. Fancy as it was, the office could always use a technological upgrade. One thing they could have done was switch to a VoIP (voice over internet protocol) system that would still provide them their beloved phone system, but do so using the internet connection instead of hard phone lines. Our office already had an internet connection, so we wouldn't need to drill holes in the walls or mess with tangled wires. As I looked more into it, I learned that the technical name for our phone systems was a PBX (private branch exchange), which basically means that we have our own internal phone system that exchanges packets of information with other phones. This whole PBX is then connected to the wider, public phone network. Sometimes, the PBX is also called PABX (private automatic branch exchange), referring to the historical distinguish between automatic and non-automatic phone switching systems. I'm guessing that all PBX systems are PABX systems anyways since information is switched automatically. Anyways, using a VoIP would allow our office to conduct all the functions of a normal PBX system, like call forwarding, conference calling, call holding, voice mail, intercom, and many others. However, it may be cheaper and can easily be combined with our existing internet service. We may even be able to add in cable TV to the package, although convincing my boss of that would have been a whole new ball game.
