Biol 1510 Lab
Room C111 Cherry Emerson Building. Enter the building at the southwest corner (closest to Physics);  room C111 is down the hall on the left.

Lab text:
Investigating Biology, 4th edition, Morgan, J.G. and Carter, M.E.B., 2002, Benjamin Cummings, San Francisco, CA is available in the bookstore (3rd edition is not acceptable). Read the introductions to each of the several exercises in each lab topic before coming to lab; you may be quizzed on their content at the beginning of lab.

Grading:
Lab attendance is mandatory. Unexcused absences may result in a substantial grade penalty. The lab grade is 25% of the course grade. Each lab exam is worth 25% of the lab grade. The remainder of the lab grade comes from lab reports, quizzes and lab participation.
Both lab exams will be given at 6:00 PM in Physics lecture room (tentative).

TIPS to the WISE

Lab begins at 10 minutes after the hour. DON'T BE LATE.
For full credit, you are required to have your TA initial your data sheet and check out your workstation before you leave the lab.

If you miss a lab...

People arriving at an exam later than 15 minutes after the hour may not be admitted.

Per Georgia Tech rules and regulations, you may be required to present a current GT student ID when you attend an exam. Failure to do so may result in your earning a zero.

If you miss a lab exam...
Contact Marc Pline ASAP. If you have a legitimate excuse with support documents, a makeup exam will be scheduled. If you don't have a legitimate excuse, you will have earned a zero.

Legitimate excuses
Georgia Tech activities- students will be allowed to make up labs or exams to attend sanctioned events. Official notification and request for absence are readily available from the appropriate school authority, and should be presented to your TA in advance.
Illness - you must have a note signed by a physician indicating that you were restricted during the time of a lab/exam because of illness and unable to attend.
Death in the family -- please bring a note from the person officiating (not a family member) requesting that you be excused for a specific period of time.
Flat tires / car trouble - this has become a favorite catch-all excuse for missing exams or being late. Whether it is legitimate or not, it is unacceptable. Give yourself enough time to be able to change a tire if necessary, take a bus or taxi, or catch a ride with a friend.

Cheating & Related Topics

Anyone found possessing and/or using the Instructor's Edition of the lab manual will receive an immediate zero for the entire lab portion of Biology 1510.

At the Lab Manager's discretion, instances of cheating will be referred to the Dean of Students for disciplinary action. This may include reprimand, receiving a failing grade in the course, academic probation or suspension from Georgia Tech. All it takes is one incident.
Use "Word" with caution. Copies of lab exams given in introductory biology labs are strictly prohibited from being removed from the test area. Copying old lab reports is cheating and can backfire on you. Working with another student on a lab exercise in lab is legitimate; copying their report is not.
