Ressources:Most of the material we will use in this class will be available online for free (copyright free material). However, we will also use La Grammaire à l'oeuvre. You will need to purchase a key for the online version of the workbook. We will use this in class as well as outside of class. You should have received an email with specific instructions on how to purchase and log in the space created for our specific class.
For your convenience, I am including here a link to Buzzport, where all your
classes should be listed and from where you can email your professors as well
as all the students in your classes.
Evaluation
What will we be doing in this class?
French 3813 aims at helping you transition from intermediate classes (2000 level)
to upper level classes (3000 and 4000 level), in particular as far as your reading
and writing skills are concerned. You will be given relatively short texts to
read as well as grammar assignments. Regular and sustained effort will be key
in insuring your success in this transition class. There will be a quiz at the
beginning of each class.
How much work to expect... French
3813 demands faithful and regular preparation of assignments and active participation
in class. To ensure success, please closely follow the syllabus and do your
readings as indicated. You should spend two hours on your homework for each
hour of class time. In other words, you should expect to spend 6 hours studying
for this class each week. It is recommended that you break this down into one
hour daily.
Nasty but necessary rules... No
make-up tests of examinations will be given without an official excuse (a written
medical excuse of the permission of a Dean). Daily class attendance is expected.
More than two absences will affect the final course grade. One and a half point
will be substracted for each daily absence in excess of two. Arriving late to
class will also cause you to lose points.
