The 1950s were a time of growth, of healing and prosperity. Ivan Scott sets An Invincible Summer against this backdrop.

Jack is a slightly roguish saint who returns to Earth to help Sam heal after a broken heart. Jack has his own problems, carrying around his own pain and anguish. A jaunty encyclopedia of information, Jack longs for his own happiness as well as helping Sam on his journey.

Sam works in broadcast journalism and is taking a breakup very hard. He convinced himself that his life is over. When Jack takes the case, he tries to ignore their shared pain and focus on just making Sam happy.  Sam’s fantasy is to play baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers team in 1955, and Jack knows that he has the power to make Sam’s dream come true.

When Sam wakes up in 1955 as a major league player, he is understandably shocked. He never expects that his fantastic journey might lead to romance and a healed heart. Yet, when he meets Lara, a worker in the Chicago Cubs franchise, he is smitten. Lara does not seem as interested in Sam as he is in her. Her initial cool façade eventually melts into a tentative relationship with the baseball player. Their ghosts of the present and past seem to stand between their slow overtures toward happiness together.

As Jack helps Sam to open his heart, he too begins to feel his broken heart mend.

A heartwarming escapade,
An Invincible Summer dares to touch the hearts of two men who are bonded by broken hearts and the shared interest of baseball. The choice of two male protagonists that were at times vulnerable and men of their times was a great counterpoint. With vibrant imagery and many 1950s personalities, Mr. Scott weaves a story that warms the heart and educates about a simpler time, both for the sport of baseball and for American culture.
