| Sam Murdock is a lost soul, searching
for the purpose to his life. Heartbroken two years ago, he still feels the
pain of the terrible break up. He exists through the days without
much joy or reason. Jack is the Saint assigned to help Sam find the closure to his pain, and explore new reasons to be happy once again. To do this, Jack grants Sam’s greatest wish, to become a Brooklyn Dodger in their year of glory, 1955. Only there are risks to Jack by returning to the time and place he found his own forbidden love. Can he overcome his own past while helping Sam with his? Sam at first can not believe the wish presented by the strange man claiming to be a Saint. But a visit from Clark Gable in his apartment helps him through. Now, Sam travels back in time escorted by his guardian, Jack, and becomes the Demolition Man for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Things go well as planned, and Sam faces the ghosts of his past and works through those painful moments. Sam meets a pretty woman named, Lara, and is intrigued by her fiery wit and keen intelligence. Her knowledge of baseball only fascinates him more. But when she avoids further attempts from him to become closer, he feels he failed. After all, his own tragic past with women seems to be is lot in life. However, Jack helps him rally and convinces him that love is worth fighting for. Lara eventually gives into her better judgment and gives Sam a chance. They draw closer throughout the season, and see each other whenever he comes to Chicago. She even shows up sometimes to his other games as well. Now Sam is faced with a difficult problem. When he is to return to his own time, can he leave the woman he loves behind? Can he just stay in the past and live his days with her? Is there more to Lara than Jack or he is aware of? AN INVINCIBLE SUMMER is a sweet tale of a man who rediscovers his own life with the help of love and a little guidance from above. Not only does Sam find his closure to his painful past, but Jack, who suffered for over forty years after his loss, overcomes his own internal torment. Who would have thought a Saint would feel pain for a lost love? Such a unique twist in this story is one of many readers will encounter along the way. Readers should be aware that a certain love, knowledge or acquaintance with baseball is needed to truly enjoy the story. Much of the action takes place during the various games the Dodgers play along the way to the climactic finally of their World Series victory against the New York Yankees. Because of this, AN INVINCIBLE SUMMER would be an appropriate read for any sports fan, especially for those who love the nostalgia of the golden years of baseball.
