Description

The purpose of this course is to help students develop 1) skills for the visual representation of ideas, and 2) aesthetic perspectives to understand visual designs. The themes of the class cover from fundamental skills in art practice (line, color, form, composition) to graphic design elements (grid system, layout, typography) and advanced production (posters, identity design, moving diagrams). Students will learn about the principles, history and exemplary works of visual design through the lectures and discuss on related readings. Their understanding will be realized and strengthened through a series of exercises using diverse tools from physical materials such as paper and pens to computer software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. In addition, students will have critique sessions on their works where they are expected to build presentation and discussion skills.

Helpful Citizens: 5% (Extra Credit)
Students earn up to 5% extra credit for being good citizens (e.g. helping solve technical problems, promoting a sense of community among classmates, etc.) Those who are helped by other students, please email to the instructor and clarify the specific help.
