The Big Hit
release year: 1998
genre: action/comedy
viewing setting: home DVD, 4/19/02 (also theater 4/25/98)
synopsis: A team of young, hip hitmen gets into trouble when they kidnap the wrong girl.
impressions: After I watched this just now, I checked some other reviews before writing my own. A common theme of said reviews: this movie is unrealistic. Well, yeah - that's supposed to be the point, I think. There are a lot of things it may NOT be, but I'll tell you what it WAS: entertaining. It's a mix of snappy lines and violent shootouts. Before I watched this, I had been thinking about selling the disc (I got it at a really low price.) Now, though, I'm keeping it for sure - it's just too damn funny.
things to watch for: The dinner scene with Melvin's fiancee, where all the gunmen are lining up their shots under the table.
acting: This was kind of a wimpy character for Mark Wahlberg (probably because the character was written that way.) Lou Diamond Phillips turns in a great over-the-top role. China Chow is cute. Everyone else was a supporting role.
final word: Rude? Yes. Crude? Sure. Entertaining? Hell yes.
