Blade

release year: 1998
genre: action/horror/fantasy
viewing setting: home DVD, 11/16/00 and theater, 8/21/98
what I expected: lots of violence and mayhem
what I got: just that, and well-put-together, too

synopsis: Half-human, half-vampire vampire hunter stalks vampires in the big city.

impressions: This was a solid stream of fights, blood, action, shootings, chop-socky, and more blood. It did the right thing: kept a simple plot and let the action drive it along. There were no pretensions to romance or any other such crap and thus, the movie never slowed down. It's just one long thrill ride.

acting: Wesley Snipes was a man of few words here, and that's fine - it worked out well. Kris Kristofferson did a good job as Blade's weapons-maker, and Stephen Dorff was outstanding as the main evil vampire, a 90s kind of vampire who tried to get the older ones to change, failed, so did it the hard way.

final word: Good vampire entertainment.
