Caddyshack
release year: 1980
genre: comedy
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/30/05
synopsis: A few oddballs cause chaos at a snotty golf course.
impressions: After seeing this movie for the first time in 1997, I then declared: "At last, I see why Rodney Dangerfield is funny." It's still true. Between his non-stop comments and Chevy Chase's deadpan humor, this movie is packed with laughs. One character I didn't find funny was Bill Murray's gopher-hunting groundskeeper; the character was just too weird, and didn't make me laugh. There are some other subplots going on, but the bulk of the humor revolves around the two actors I named.
something this movie has that no other movie has: a turd floating in a swimming pool
acting: Rodney Dangerfield is the flippant rich guy who rags on everyone and everything around him. Chevy Chase is the skilled golfer who refuses to compete. Bil Murray is the blue-collar groundskeeper who is given the mission to rid the course of a troublesome gopher. Michael O'Keefe is the young caddy who has to decide what to do with his life.
final word: Funny golf comedy.
