From Dusk Till Dawn

release year: 1996
genre: horror/drama/comedy
viewing setting: numerous (member of the double-digit club)
what I expected: no longer applicable
what I got: one part Pulp Fiction plus one part Army of Darkness equals some major entertainment

synopsis: One night is all that stands between two dangerous escaped criminals (plus the vacationing family they took hostage) and freedom - but it's going to be one hell of a night, because the Mexican bar they're meeting their contact in happens to be populated by vampires.

impressions: This movie is everything you'd expect from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. It has snappy lines, weirdness, blood and guts, gorgeous women, lots of action - and monsters! It's a dark, violent movie whose first half is more normal and whose second half is non-stop vampire fighting. It's hilarious in parts, and once the vampires show up, it never slows down.

acting: This is the movie that George Clooney used to break his ER stereotype. He's one BAMF here. Quentin Tarantino plays his crazed younger brother. Other notable appearances: Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Cheech Marin, Fred Williamson, Tom Savini, Salma Hayek, Danny Trejo. All give memorable roles, even if they're minor.

final word: Quite literally, a hell of a ride. If you like rip-roaring fun and don't mind blood and guts, you should see this.
