Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
release year: 2009
genre: fantasy
viewing setting: theater, 7/19/09
synopsis: As the evil Voldemort and his lackeys hatch their most ambitious scheme yet, Harry learns about the dark lord's past.
impressions: This one continues the trend of darker, more violent movies...and it also finally brings some budding relationships out into the open. And of course there's a major death at the end. Despite all that, we felt like this one was more of a bridge to the final one instead of a movie in its own right.
something this movie has that no other movie has: A lake full of undead.
acting: As usual, I won't re-hash the returning actors' performances, other than to say that Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) really grew up a lot between the last movie and this one. Jim Broadbent is Horace Slughorn, an old friend of Dumbledore who knows a critical secret.
final word: Another good one, though I think it's destined that they all be good. Six down, one to go.
