Star Wars: The Special Edition

release year: 1997
genre: sci-fi/adventure
viewing setting: theater, 2/9/97 & 6/17/97 (plus original version, webcast, 6/11/98)
what I expected: to be bored while I looked for the new scenes
what I got: a good argument for seeing all big movies in a big loud theater

synopsis: You're kidding, right? Oh, okay! A variety of characters come together to foil the plans of the evil Galactic Empire and its leaders.

impressions: Same old classic...with a few new scenes. The Jabba one was cool, as was Boba Fett's cameo and the stormtrooper multiplication. Also added were a dewback scene and a Mos Eisley robot scene. One comment: having Greedo fire and miss at point-blank range was stupid. WHY did they add this?!?

acting: Stellar, except for the stormtrooper who bangs his head in the Death Star.

sequel: The Empire Strikes Back

final word: A classic of sci-fi and adventure.

rating: A
