A life I’d never lead

I have found the greatest show on television I swear it. It is this show called the office. and basically it’s about what goes on inside of any normal American office building. Now for most people that sounds insane. You’re probably thinking, “Who would want to watch something like that?” I ‘ll tell you who. Me.

First of all this is a comedy, because how else could you get away with putting a show about an office on television? It’s supposed to be making fun of the traditional image of what goes on inside of the relationships and turmoil's that come out of people being crammed inside of a box together and then assigned their own individual, smaller, box. This something many people actually live every day, and I don’t know if I could live that way.

I do have some experience in the area and so I am not basing this assumption purely on non facts. I worked for a whole year in this little call center where basically I was that person who you hate to hear from. Our goal was to get as many people to answer our stupid little surveys during the normal dinner hour as possible. Then after that we would get random numbers and people would usually hang up on us. We all had our own little cubicles where we’d stare off in to space in between calls because we weren’t allowed to bring anything to our desks with us. Just like the show The Office, our boss was a total goof . I honestly don’t know how that man got the job he had, but I do understand why that was where he stopped looking for other jobs. I mean how hard can it be to make sure that everyone sitting in their nice little boxes doesn’t get up and walk out? When they did he just sat there looking smug and cracking some stupid joke about work ethics. HE was the type of guy that most people couldn’t stand to be around for too long without telling him to just shut the hell up.

In the show the Office they all have these strange work relationships which develop over time in to either some kind of positive and healthy relationship, or it is totally unfixable at a certain point. I had some of both in my job. There were these two girls there who would just gab on and on in between calls and one day I asked them to be quiet when I wasn’t feeling so good and from then on it was like I dropped a bomb on their house or something. You want to see mean looks, they had faces that could break mirrors and every day they would break them just for me.

I hope none of you ever have to work in an Office. But if you ever do I sincerely hope you boss is funny as Michael Scott.....watch the show.
