Figuring out what to do with my life
Sometimes I get a feeling in college that the people who design the requirements for a major have never really thought about what they are making everyone take. I have been pouring over major requirements for all kinds of majors and trying to narrow my choices. Right now I am taking a bunch of liberal arts credits but I have been thinking that I might want to do something with technology or web design. This is sort of caused by my interest since I have liked running this blog and various other sites in the past. I have been considering doing some kind of web site architecture, or web site development so that I can work from home and drink lots of coffee when I graduate.
This was also spurred by the fact that I am getting a little frustrated with the whole experience of having no money. I have started my delivery driving job once again and it has been going well. I have worked one weekend and this will be my second, but it is still not much money. Since I am taking six classes right now I simply don’t have any time to work more than friday and saturday and even those are tough because I should be doing homework during those times. So with my week to week living I have been getting a bit stressed out about money even after two weeks. I am living with a bunch of friends so my rent is low, but it is the car payments and insurance bills that are killing my budget. Now I know that I am not going to give up my Thursday night parties and cigarette budget so I have to find some other way to make some bank this semester.
Anyway so I think that I may have found my calling. I know it is a little less inspirational than some people who discover they want to be a doctor by saving someone’s life or by watching some horrible disaster, but it is my story. I think the area I really want to go in to is web architecture and programming. I really enjoy being on the sort of ground level of computing and that is where it is at. I think it would be awesome to be on a team developing gaming networks or part of the next Google or something. I mean even doing research and design for search engine optimization groups would be fun for me. I just know that I have figured out the area in which I want to sort of direct myself for now.
